About us

The story of our pirtis began in 2019, after a visit to the sauna in Šernai, Lithuania with bath master. Before that, we used to go to the group sauna, where the visitors brought a lot of different food, and the steam room was run by whoever was lazy. Most of the time, this ended up with us overeating and overheating, and we felt sick the next morning. The visit to healthy pirtis changed our understanding of the steam bathing completely. We realised that there was no need for high temperatures in a steam room, and that a half-empty stomach allowed us to enjoy the whisper of the bath water and the light steam .After the sauna, we came out uplifted, in good spirits and energetic, and that's when my husband started to plan a sauna of his own, for the use of his family only... .As Saulius is a carpenter, within two months, a small, beautiful sauna was built instead of a storage room at the back of the garden. The first time we treated ourselves, the next we treated our close friends, and then it was on!

More and more people found out about us through each other and we had to start a calendar. People liked what we were doing and we felt that we lacked knowledge, so my husband found the Lithuanian Pirtis Academy and the studies started... And the name "Žemaitiškas garas" came from the idea that the materials for the sauna came from Lithuania and that we both come from Žemaitija... People who visit our sauna say that it's a little corner of Lithuania in England... they find peace, relaxation and the warmth of our hearts here...
