Healthy sauna basics and introduction to whisking

This is an intensive and fun introductory course of healthy sauna basics and whisking. It is targeted to zero-experience users but also suits the more seasoned sauna goer. Lithuanian and Baltic sauna traditions incorporate steam, leaf whisking and various natural bathing practices.

The course consists of two intensive one day workshops

Day one. Steam bath ABC.

This is will be the first day of your journey to heathy steam bathing. You will be acquainted with the essential details of the Lithuanian Pirtis (traditional steam-bath sauna). There will be presentations and Q and As and you will also participate in sweat bath rituals.

Day two. Light whisking.

More in-sauna practice of the body-work you learned on day 1 in hot sauna conditions.
On finishing the 2nd day, the student is awarded the "Gourmand of healthy steam bath“ qualification.

Themes covered

  • Body reaction to heat

    A sauna master must adjust sauna procedures to the needs of each client, adjusting heat, steam, water temperature, and session duration accordingly. Sauna work is a live process, like a ship captain making impromptu decisions, and there is no time to check answers on the Internet—one must watch the subtle cues of a man's condition and adjust the procedure in a split second.

    This webinar is all about understanding how sauna heat dynamically affects the body—how the internal temperature rises, the circulation changes, and skin pores open. Subjects vary from how the sauna acts on joints, muscles, and the respiratory system to why dizziness occurs and how it affects immunity and hormonal balance. Sweating, detoxification, how heat acts on internal organs like the liver, and how it affects the nervous system will be discussed with the newest scientific research.

  • Healthy steam bath procedure

    The first practical theme(topic) of the Bath Masters course  is the Healthy Sauna Procedure. It is dedicated to learning about a healthy, bioresonant sauna. During the sauna, we go through a complete sauna procedure consisting of 4 stages:

    • introductory warm-up
    • sweating stimulation
    • Soaking in the steam and self-bathing

    This workshop is essential for those wishing to continue their studies and further their knowledge, but it is also available simply to try a healthy sauna treatment in a good sauna (often with a good gourmet sauna stove).

  • Holistic whisking

    A practical theme to learn and test the work of a sauna master. The first steps towards a new profession take place in a safe environment, in a good sauna, with the help of an experienced trainer. This topic is usually taught in the form of a sauna evening (a practical session in the sauna), during which the teacher introduces and demonstrates the main points of practical work in the steam room and the students try it out in practice. In this way, they have the opportunity to test themselves as future sauna practitioners and get a better idea of the level at which they would like to learn the sauna trade.

  • Introduction to sauna plants

    Step into the fragrant world of the Lithuanian steam bath, where plants are not just decoration—they are inherent to the sensory, therapeutic, and ritualistic character of the pirtis. In this introductory course, students become acquainted with the overall types of herbal preparations utilized in sauna culture: whisks, infusions, decoctions, fragrant extracts, and more.

    You'll learn how sauna plants have been used traditionally to promote health and mood—from calming herbal teas to fragrant brooms hung over the hot bench.

  • Self whisking

    Important theme and one of major aspects of sauna education that is very often neglected by even prominent bath mastership teachers. Yet it is even more complex then whisking other person.

    This theme covers

    • initial warming of the feet
    • enhancing blood circulation
    • self massage with whisks
    • self whisking of shoulders, sides, back
    • ergonomics of self whisking
    • different postures: sitting, laying
  • Steam bath basics

    Theoretical theme. Contens:

    • Definition of steam bath
    • Purpose of bath procedure
    • Body reaction to heat
    • Quality factors of healthy bath
    • Correct heating and cooling
    • Safe behaviour in sauna
    • Eating and drinking in bath
    • Most comon mistakes

    This theme belongs to  Healthy steam bath ABC seminar and opens the whole course of bath mastership studies.

  • Whisking techniques

    Dry training  - individualized teaching of effective movements

    We teach a student the basics of warming: to warm the client's body safely and evenly and gradually cool him so he can safely and calmly leave the hotroom without the supervision of a bath master. Such treatment can also be performed as a full bath procedure in cases when the client is tired and wants to rest and relax.

    Content of the training:

    1. Basic whisking movement clacification
    2. Contactless techniques
    3. Light superficial techniques
    4. Warming of the underskin and muscles

    We work with small group and provide individual training.
