Wild Bathing Seminar: The Soul of Water & Fire
A two-day journey into the heart of sauna in the wild, blending ancient steam bathing traditions with modern practice on the British seashore. This seminar is for those looking to deepen their connection with nature, master the elements, and rediscover the art of communal well-being through various body heating practices.
Day 1: The Craft of Wild Sauna
This intensive first day is dedicated to the practical skills and foundational knowledge required to safely and effectively create a wild sauna and emergency heating experiences. We will explore the principles of heat, shelter, and fire, encouraging and empowering you with the confidence to build and operate your own sauna in nature.
Morning: The Foundations of Heat (Indoor Session)
- 09:00 – Welcome & Brew: Arrive, settle in, and share a warm drink as we introduce the principles for the day.
- 09:30 – The Heritage of Heat – More Than a Hot Box: Exploration of ancient sauna traditions and the social role of communal bathing. Discussion of how historical practices inform modern wild bathing as a discipline that connects muscles, hearts, and minds.
- 10:30 – The Heart of the Sauna – Climate, Stoves & Stones: A technical but accessible look at creating the traditional sauna climate, covering stove principles and the science of selecting, heating, and safely using stones to produce soft, nourishing heat.
Afternoon: Elements in Practice (Outdoor · Seashore)
- 12:00 – 13:00 – Lunch & Gear Check: Simple meal, hydration, clothing/kit review (wind layers, gloves, dry bag). Safety brief for fire, hot water, hot stones, and sea entry.
- 13:00 – 14:15 – Coastal Firecraft: From Spark to Stealth Flame: Hands-on ignition and maintenance in wind using low-signature setups. Participants practice reliable fire-making without scarring the site.
- 14:15 – 17:00 – The Art of Heat: Body, Stone & Sea (Minimal Conditions): Group build of temporary wild sauna set-ups and practical heat engineering under constraints. Optional sea immersion. Skills transferable to any setting where dependable warmth is needed with limited resources.
- 17:00 – 17:30 – Debrief & Close of Formal Instruction: Group lessons learned, next-day previews, and personal safety checks.
Optional Evening Session: The Bather's Rest
18:00 – A Restorative Experience: For those staying overnight or wishing to deepen their experience, we offer a gentle, facilitated sauna session. This is an opportunity for deep rest, quiet reflection, and a first introduction to the art of traditional whisking.
